Editorial policy

Useful first. Traceable always.

This policy explains how Project Matter selects topics, verifies calculations, cites outside material, uses software assistance, separates advertising, and handles corrections.

What earns a page

We publish when a calculator input, package label, layout choice, or purchasing decision needs more explanation than a result panel can provide. A guide must help a reader measure, reproduce an estimate, understand an assumption, or recognize when the tool is not enough.

We do not publish trend summaries, rewritten product pages, invented first-hand experience, or unrelated articles merely to increase page count. The site’s subject remains material quantity planning for paint, tile, wallpaper, flooring, drywall, and concrete.

How sources are selected

Product yields and installation statements are linked to current manufacturer data sheets or installation guides when available. Trade associations are used for shared terminology. Major retailer project guidance may support common purchasing allowances, but the page identifies those figures as planning defaults rather than universal standards.

Simple worked examples are original arithmetic based on the formula shown. We do not copy product descriptions or reproduce copyrighted diagrams. External links are checked during publication, and readers should still verify the current product label before buying.

Publication workflow

  1. Define the exact planning question and its limits.
  2. Collect primary or close-to-primary source material.
  3. Write the formula and calculate a reproducible example.
  4. Compare the example with the calculator’s implementation.
  5. Check links, structured data, accessibility, desktop layout, and mobile layout.
  6. Publish a review date and a route for corrections.

Updates change the displayed review date only when the calculation, source set, limitations, or substantive explanation has been reviewed—not for cosmetic edits alone.

Software-assisted work

Code analysis, drafting, formatting, and testing may use software-assisted workflows, including automated tools. Assistance does not replace source review. Before publication, each formula, numerical example, source link, navigation path, and calculator result is checked against the site code and the cited material.

Project Matter does not create fictional authors, contractors, tests, site visits, photographs, credentials, or personal experience. Where the site lacks first-hand evidence, the wording is limited to calculation and documented guidance.

Advertising and commercial influence

Project Matter may use Google AdSense. Ads are visually separate from calculator controls and editorial text. Advertisers do not receive access to calculator measurements, choose article topics, approve copy, or pay for favorable coverage. We do not currently publish sponsored posts, affiliate rankings, or paid product reviews.

Corrections and disagreements

A useful correction identifies the page, the disputed formula or sentence, the expected result, and a source when one exists. Valid corrections are prioritized by their effect on purchase quantity or safety. The public repository preserves a change history for code and content.
